Finding The Best Blender for Smoothies

One of the most common uses for a blender is to make smoothies. You’ll mix fruit and vegetables and some other ingredients like milk, yogurt and ice together and after a couple of minutes you end up with a smoothie. Nothing easier than that. But how will you know what the best blender for smoothies is? It is the cheap no-name gadget from the discount store? The mid-range one with a brand name? Or, actually do you need a professsional one from Blendtec or Vitamix? How much money should you invest to satisfy your smoothie addiction?

You can find cheap blenders for $30 or probably even cheaper. This sounds fabulous for many but you really want to think about it twice. Blending smoothies means that you put solid ice cubes into the mix and they have to be crushed nicely. A cheap blender will typically either not do a good job at that or will wear out quickly. Replacing a $30 gadget regularly actually can get quite expensive.

Mid-range blenders run between $80 and $120. Most of them do a good job with making smoothies. Things you want to consider are the material that the jar is made of. Glass or polycarbonate is typically best and you want to make sure that the jar is dishwasher safe. You want to check that it has a wide solid base and a high-powered motor with at least 500 watts as a bare minimum. The stronger the motor the better. Also take into consideration that buttons on a blender might end up hard to clean. You can find blenders with touch pads which make cleaning them a breeze.

Professional high-end blenders typically cost you several hundred dollars. However, they do have all the bells and whistles you can ask for and they do provide you with a lot of control over your blends. This is something you don’t want to underestimate when you start making smoothies that consist of more than strawberries and bananas. Which blender is the best for smoothies? Well, if you can afford it then go for a professional blender. You will find out that once you have one and use one, you’ll be using it for a lot more than just smoothies. You can for example mix all the vegetables you use for a soup in them and so much more. I think it’s worth the investment as you will do more than make smoothies with it.
